The Purpose of The Bucket List

The bucket list was made famous by the movie of the same name. The leading characters played by Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman created a bucket list to do the things they’d always wanted to do before they died. It’s a great concept but the magnitude of the items may overshadow the purpose.

Essentially, a bucket list represents those things in life we tend to put off because we assume we’ll always have time later.

I read an article recently about an 82-year-old woman who traveled cross country in an 18-wheeler just because she always wanted to do it. While it took several years to organize and pull off, she still made it happen at an age when most of us would have thought it was not reasonable.

What are you putting off? Is it a conversation with a friend you haven’t seen in years? Is it a trip to visit a relative who’s ill? Is it that book you’ve always wanted to write?

Whatever it is, just Nike (do it). If you’re willing to put in the time, the energy, and the creativity, there’s always a way.
